Tennessee County Named For A Jurist Memphis
An unexpected gem in the tiny Tennessee city of Brownsville (pop. 10,748), the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center shows what can be done when a community decides to preserve its heritage. “We live, eat and breathe our heritage,” said center director Cathe Butler said. “It’s very important to us and something we don’t want to lose.”
Built in 1998, the center features three museums – the Cotton Museum, Music Museum and Hatchie River Museum – as well as displays and information on the counties of West Tennessee. “This is a great place to come and plan your visit to our area,” Butler said. “You can fan out an hour and a half from here and do hundreds of things.”
You also can spend hours touring the free center, picking out travel brochures and browsing in the small artisan center where local handiwork – such as birdhouses, crochet pieces, pottery, woodworking items and Adirondack chairs – are for sale.
