2009 U.S. stamp issues will include:

• Anna Julia Cooper (issue date: June 11): This year’s Black Heritage series stamp is Cooper (1858-1964), an African American feminist and educator.
• Gulf Coast Lighthouses (July 23): This strip of five stamps spotlight lighthouses in the Gulf Coast region: Matagorda, Texas; Sabine Pass, Louisiana; Biloxi, Mississippi; Sand Island, Alabama; and Fort Jefferson, Florida.
• Flags of Our Nation (August 6): The third set of 10 stamps in the recent series feature 9 state flags and the American flag: Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi and Missouri.
• Early TV Memories (August 11): The golden age of television of the ‘50s and ‘60s is represented on this sheet of 20 stamps featuring legendary shows: “Texaco Star Theater,” “I Love Lucy,” “The Red Skelton Show,” “Howdy Doody,” “Dragnet,” “Lassie,” “Hopalong Cassidy,” “You Bet Your Life,” “The Dinah Shore Show,” “The Ed Sullivan Show,” “Kukla, Fran and Ollie,” “The Phil Silvers Show,” “The Lone Ranger,” “Perry Mason,” “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “Burns and Allen,” “Ozzie and Harriet,” “The Tonight Show,” “The Twilight Zone” and “The Honeymooners.” The selvage features stars such as Milton Berle, the cast from "I Love Lucy," Alfred Hitchcock and Howdy Doody.
• Hawaii Statehood (August 21): The Aloha State turns 50 since entering the Union; the stamp’s artwork features a surfer and canoe paddlers in front of a wave.
• Thanksgiving Day Parade (September 9): With a scene that is reminiscent of the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, this strip of four stamps features spectators, a marching band and gigantic balloons.
• Gary Cooper (September 10): The stalwart actor (1901-1961), known for movies such as "The Pride of the Yankees," "Sergeant York" and "High Noon," is the latest addition to the Postal Service’s Legends of Hollywood stamp series. Cooper’s likeness was previously used on the 1990 Classic Films stamp of "Beau Geste."
• Kelp Forest (October 1): The latest addition (the 11th) to the Nature of America series features 10 stamps depicting both marine and plant life.
• Holiday Stamps: In keeping with a long tradition the Postal Service is issuing both traditional and contemporary holiday stamps. The former is based on the painting Madonna and Sleeping Child by Giovanni Battisi Salvi (October 20); the latter is a block of four stamps of a snowman, gingerbread man, reindeer and a toy soldier (October 8). There will also be stamps for Kwazaa (October 9), Eid (release date TBD), and Hanukkah (October 9).
• United States Supreme Court Justices (release date TBD): This set of four commemoratives honor some of the most famous and respected justices of the Court in American history. They include Felix Frankfurter, William Brennan, Louis Brandeis and Joseph Story. Previous Supreme Court justices honored on stamps include Thurgood Marshall, John Marshall, John Jay, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Hugo Black and Earl Warren.
